Beaches south of Lisbon

After 4 days in Lisbon we went south along the coastal road to the most westerly point of  continental Europe. The weather was cloudy and rainy for a few days and the ocean is freezing cold, so my plan to load on the beach was not a good one. The distances are a lot closer than I had thought so got to places way quicker than I thought it would take, so we really motored along at a good clip and then headed east into Spain.

LISBON - PORTUGAL

From Cordoba to Lisbon is just over five hundred kilometers and we stayed in Situbal which is just south of Lisbon by thirty kilometers. Found a great apartment which happened to overlook the main plaza where they had set up a huge covered stage for a concert that night to celebrate Frrdom Day , 25 April.  Took the train into Lisbon  and then the ferry which was quick and didn't have to worry about finding parking.

The city goes from the river banks and rises up the hillside and is very old and beautiful,  with clean cobbled streets and old trams and lots of history. We generally just walk everywhere covering between 6 to 10 kilometers a day so get to see most of the desired locations. Being there on Freedom Day was special cause all the locals celebrate it and wear a red carnation ,the symbol of that day back in 1974 when the military overthrew the dictator and not one shot was fired.

CORDOBA

Drove north east to Cordoba where we got a real fancy hotel, well for me anyhow and it was on the outskirts of town in the hills.
Called Juan Carlos whom I had stay with me when he was in Montana on his world trip about 20 months ago and he had just arri ed back home 3 weeks ago from that trip. We had a great reunion  and went to his Mas Gas Club and then out for dinner. Was great to catch up and hear about his travels.
We explored Cordoba and it is a beautiful city with centuries of history and churches and ruins as the photos below depict.
