Casablanca to Essouira

Kalispell - Seattle (9hrs) - Paris (3hrs) - Casablanca.
Left Casablanca by bus the following day to Essouira (7hrs) which is 310 km south on the coast. Stayed at Riad La Grande in the walled city and was anything but grande, great location, clean and comfortable.

Formely known as Mogador when the French ruled until 1956, Essouira became the first sea point town of Morocco and was built in the mid - eighteenth century by King Mohammed 111. Our Riad was within the walled city which has no roads just alleyways where there are numerous stores,  some bigger than a cupboard where you will find skilled cabinetmakers and woodcarvers.
The alleys are lined with traders selling carpets, crockery, leather goods, sandals and jewelry with spice merchants and food kiosks amongst them all and many restaurants. The harbour is one of the major fishing ports of Morocco with sardines and eel being the major catches, and quite a hectic area when the fishing boats come into port.
