The drive to Meknes was only two hours and we have a Riad in the Medina and parked the car outside as they have no vehicle less inside. Meknes is much less touristic than the other big cities and a lot less chaotic and busy as the big Medinas. Only one day is required to see the place.
Meknes is one of the four Imperial cities of Morocco and the sixth largest in population (650 000) in the kingdom. Founded in the 11 th century by the Almoravids as a military settlement.
Volubilis is a famous Roman constructed site located on a hill in the countryside about 30 km from Meknes .
