CHEFCHAOUEN AND TANGIERS

Departed from Fez early to Chefchaouen which took about four hours and left us the remainder of the day to see the Blue City.
Chefchaouen

is a small city  which sits on a hillside and has a small Medina which takes just a few hours to visit and all the buildings are painted blue  and quite beautiful.
Had a tasty dinner in the Madina and every meal we have had in Morocco has been piping hot, still boiling and bubbling on the late.
The city was founded in 1481 as a small kasbah (fortress) by Moulay Alu ibn Rashid al- Alami to fight off the Portuguese invasion of northern Morocco. The region is the main producer of cannabis and a few theories about the blue walls are that they keep mozzies  away, another is that the Jews introduced the blue when they took refuge from Hitler in the 1930s. The blue is said to symbolize the sky and heaven, and serve as a reminder to lead a spiritual life.
